For us innovation is a prerogative that does not concern solely its products and ongoing research aimed at achieving formal improvements, it is also an indispensable dimension of production. To improve means enhancing efficiency, making work easier and making the company increasingly eco-sustainable.
Special attention is devoted to minimising our impact on the environment. All stages of product development continue to be carried out in-house in the district of Civita Castellana and hence are managed and controlled directly.
The eco-friendly policy undertaken by Flaminia over the last few years has led to the construction of a photovoltaic power plant that produces 887,000 kWh of energy per year and enables around 30% of renewable energy to be generated locally. The adoption of photovoltaics prevents 338 tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere each year.
In terms of architecture and landscape, the company’s environmental awareness has led to the construction of new generation buildings, in line with the criteria of sustainable architecture. The new structures have been designed to be in harmony with the surrounding environment, the green valley of the Treia river.
The production process is also based on a circular cycle: water is treated and reused; unfired rejects are fed into the new mixes; enamels residues are recovered and reused; some of the excess heat from the firing process is used to dry the semi-finished products; fired material rejects are ground and used in other areas.
Most, about 80%, of industrial waste is reused in other sectors instead of being landfilled.
THE CERTIFICATIONS
In 2005, Ceramica Flaminia achieved certification to ISO 14001, the technical standard of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on Environmental Management Systems (EMS), which defines the requirements of an environmental management system, aiming at the constant monitoring of a company’s impacts on the environment and their continuous mitigation.
During the course of 2023, Ceramica Flaminia acquired certification to ISO 5001, the technical standard of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on Energy Management Systems (EnMS), which sets out the requirements for creating, implementing, initiating, maintaining and improving an energy management system aimed at the constant monitoring of energy management, in any form, and the attainment of greater efficiency in energy use, with a special focus on a continuous increase in the use of renewable and carbon-free energy.
