ALESSANDRO MENDINI

Alessandro Mendini (Milan, 1931-2019) is an architect, designer, artist, critic and journalist.  He was  a major theoretician and promoter of renewal in Italian design. He has directed the renowned magazines Casabella, Modo and Domus. Mendini creates objects, furniture, interiors, installations, paintings and architecture. He collaborates with international companies including: Alessi, Bisazza, Hermès, Philips, Kartell, Swatch, Venini and Cartier. He is a consultant to various industries in Korea, guiding their approach to image and design. These include Ramun, Cha Hospital, SPC Group, Samsung and LG.

He is an honorary member of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. In Italy, he has received three Compasso d’Oro design awards. In France, he carries the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. He holds an honorary title from the Architectural League of New York. He has received honorary degrees from universities in Milan, Paris, Wroclaw in Poland and Seoul in Korea. He is the recipient of the European Prize for Architecture 2014 in Chicago. His work is found in museums and private collections all over the world. In the field of architecture, he works with his brother Francesco Mendini and realizes important architectural projects all over the world.
